3PL site for ASOS.com a high volume global online fashion and beauty retailer offering over 50,000 branded and own-label product lines across womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, jewelry and beauty.

In 2014/2015 the Barnsley Fulfilment Centre expanded it’s capability through the installation of new mechanical handling systems and WCS moving from order based to batch picking.

• UAT testing, and fault finding on new WMS and automation systems
• Oversaw the setting up and management of user accounts for the new WCS system including user access levels.
• Support of WCS and Mechanical Handling Systems, including Dematic miniloads, Crisplant/Beumer cross-belt Sorter and Dürkopp hanging sorter.
• Building, managing and developing a team of 4 operators to monitor systems and control the release of work into picking in order to reach multiple despatch cut-off targets.
• Worked with Training and Operations teams to bring warehouse processes in line with automation.

JD Sports Plc.

High volume sports-fashion retailer with over 800 stores throughout the UK and Europe. Brands include JD Sports, Scotts, Bank, Blacks and Millets.

Kingsway NDC was opened in 2012 replacing the manual warehouses with automated systems.

Mechanical Handling Systems were installed and supported by Dematic, including 300,000 location highbay storage, crossbelt sorter and goods to man picking stations.

Matflo WMS and WCS by DAI (Digital Applications International).

As Control Room Manager I was responsible for overseeing the smooth running and implementation of these new systems during this period of change.

  • Built, managed and developed a small team to control the workflow and support the warehouse management systems (WMS) and warehouse control systems (WCS).
  • Fault finding, testing and process improvement on a new system.
  • Communication with consultants, programmers, operations team and merchandising team to adjust the project to the fast changing needs of the expanding business.
  • Oversaw the flow, control and support of the WMS and mechanical handling systems.
  • Initiated and oversaw the production of reports on the operational performance of the site.
  • Asset management and first line support of 500 radio frequency terminals

Shop Direct Group

High volume home-shopping retailer offering next day delivery across the UK. Brands include Very, Littlewoods, Great Universal, Woolworths and Isme.

Starting on the shop floor, I quickly progressed through stock administration to line management before joining the Control Room as the new automated systems came online.

Automation included highbay bulk carton storage installed by Cleco (now Logistex) conveyor systems by Vanderlande and sorters installed by Beumer

In this role I was responsible for the smooth flow of stock around the site and supporting the various technical systems.

  • 1st (and some 2nd) line technical support of PC hardware and software, radio frequency terminals and Xerox advice note printers
  • Supported the WMS and WCS systems including handheld terminals and VT520 terminals.
  • Controlled and monitored movement of stock through the sites mechanical handling systems
  • In 2003 Seconded to set up IT support processes and organise hardware procurement and installation for a new returns processing centre.
